  • Appliqued Blue Silk Organza Evening Dress, 1949

    Navy blue silk organza evening dress. Scooped neckline trimmed with ivory lace leaf and rose appliques repeated in falling pattern along left front side and in embroidered vine encircling lower skirt. Very full circular skirt has two layers of organza over of layer of net. Skirt seams have been let out at waist. Dress would be worn over chemise. Clothing label: Salon Moderne/SAKS FIFTH AVENUE.     Sleeveless red satin dress. Wide scooped neckline decorated with gathered leaf-shaped pieces to form petal effect; similar piece pinned below waist. Seam at waistline; self-fabric contour belt. Full bias-cut skirt with box-pleat trim on inside of hem. Bodice boned, but dress unlined. Clothing label: Salon Moderne/SAKS FIFTH AVENUE. Handwritten on label: Mrs. Firestone/11-28-47/402. This dress was probably made for winter 1947 Christmas or holiday parties.

  • Appliqued Silk Satin Evening Dress, 1947

    Steel gray silk satin evening dress with dark blue velvet appliques in stylized leaf pattern above and below waistline. Blue velvet standing collar and short blue puffed sleeves. Separate blue velvet belt lined with gray satin. Clothing label: SAKS FIFTH AVENUE. Handwritten on label: Mrs. Firestone/12-19-47/410. This almost surely served as a winter holiday dress.

  • Silk Taffeta Floor Length Dress, 1949

    Raspberry silk taffeta dress. Floor length with short raglan sleeves and carved, covered buttons. Large, one-piece oval overskirt creates aprons in front and back and open V-shapes on sides with slightly A-line underskirt visible on both sides. Clothing label: Salon Moderne/SAKS FIFTH AVENUE/NEW YORK. Handwritten on label: Mrs. H. Firestone/12-21-49/374. This dress was copied from Dior's 1948 Spring Collection; see Vogue Magazine, March 1, 1948, p.72, and March 15, 1948, p.104.

    Strapless summer evening dress of white cotton, machine-embroidered with pink carnations and green stems. Neckline edged with applique carnations.
