Camp of the 47th Regt. O.V.I.
Near Eeast point Ga.[?] Sept. 9th /64 Dear Cousin As i have a few spar moaments i thought that I would write a few lines to let you now that i am well and hope that theas few lines will find you the same henry i reseaved your kind[crossed out] that tobacco yesterday[?] and it come good for i had not had any for a day or two but i think that thay will pay us off be for long for we hav gon in to camp for[?] a few day and maby for a month at least i hope Sow for i am tired out and woarn out boath by hard fiting and hard marching. Seanes i wroat to you we have had one big fite and that woas on the 31 of Aug and the 1 of Sep and one the 30 of Aug but we did not lose meny men out of our Regt. for that [crossed out] thar is not meny of us left to lose Henry i got the tobacco but now letter but then i am looking[?] for a letter to stay for i hant had now for the last three [crossed out] [?] day. We left the march[?] in front of Atlant on the 26 of Aug and march in the rear of Atlant and of [?] [?] [?] to come out and fite out and soon[?] he got his fill and now we are in camp with in Six miles of Atlanta and I hope they will let us stay here for a while. henry what do you think about the draft. i think that old[?] Abe is [plaied?] out at least if he doant in foarce the draft. i hope that it has com of be for this time but thar is some [?] that he has [?] [?] the draft but i hop that it hant[?] so for we need men down here and i doant think that of them felows are any beter than i am for to be shot at. henry when you write and tell me how mark and william are giting a long i heared that frank miller was dead is it sow oar not and what has become of Charles Louis is he alive yet or not. well i ges that i will stop on till i see wether[?] thar is a letter come[?] for me in the next to day. Sep 11th /64 Well that hant no mail come in I get. I will finish my letter Henry. We have got tents for the first time this summeroar seances we come back from home. henry what do you think about the draft i think that thay hadnt ought to woant peas to have[?] as long as we ar[sic] hear[sic] in the army for we ar the ones that is fiting and we doant want peas as long as thar is a reble in [?] the ones that is making the fuss[?] never seen eny thing yet i say give them now learns but through [?] thar armes and some back again as thay wish[?] look on the next sheat hank i am going to give you a long letter this time[?] The transcription was provided for your convenience.
