Camp in Front of Vicksburg ?
April 5th 1863
it is with the graites of pleasure[?] that I now take my pen in hand to let you now that i am well and hope this short letter will find you all the same i reseived your kind letter some time a go and was glad to hear from you I be gun to think thar you had for got me in tirely but then it was a good while be for you got a letter from me but now you will git mor letter than you have been giting for a long time well now i will tell you a bout a letter sent that we had a bout [?] weakes a go we went up the river a bout 50 miles and then went[?] in to a swamp and went in to a camp and then we built a bridge one mile in lenth and wen we got it don we march over it and come to a small stream the name of this river is black river and thar we got on the boat and then [?] up the river we went up the river 20 miles and then we landed in the [?] and then we march up the river one mile and stop and camp for the night the corn was a bout [?] high
well i cant think of much to write this tim sow i will close for the time
