Camp Chaes [Chase] Ohio [Illegible month] 1863 Dear Cousin
It is with pleasure that I now take my pen in hand to let you [k]now that I am well and hope theas [these] few lines will find you all the same I reseaved [received] your kind letter some time a go and the reason that I have not ansord [answered] it is for I did not [k]now how so[o]n we wood [would] leave that camp I am in camp Chaes [chase] ohio now and and [expect?] to stay hear [here] on till I am [illegible] and then I will be sent back to the [regiment?] I would like to spend the fourth with you but thar [there] haint now [no] prospects of it all though if I had only money I wood [would] try it but I haint got it sow [so] I will haft [have] to stay my food is giting [getting] bet[t]er sow [so] that I wocke [walk] 4 miles last night write as soon as you [k]now mor[e] for this time swo [so] good by[e]W.W. Van Riper Willis Van Riper and all the rest of the foakes [folks] Direct to Camp Caes Ohio Co B 47 Ohio Regt.
