March the 28 1855 Dear Cousin
I now take my pen in hand to let you know how I are ageting [a getting] along now I are all well except my foot has troubles me wak [walk] now but it broke open last night and it feels bet[t]er now I wrote to you last but Mary wrote that you did not get the letter and I will write another now it is agood [a good] while since we saw each other I hope that we will see each other before another six years pass by I haven’t went to school but three days this samer [summer] so far I wrote a letter to mary yesterday gary lives about two miles and a half from here tell uncle nick that he must write to me and aunt mary ann that she must write to I are agoing [a going] to write a little to willis to in your letter write before long and try not to forget me this is your cousinJohn Van Riper To Henry Van Riper
