I take this opportunity to relate to you the painful intel[l]igence of Mary James Death she died last thursday and was buried saturday I suppose she died with the Consumption she suffered a great deal before she died she was quite smart in the morning and between nine and ten she commenced coughing and could not raise anything and she choked and coughed untill [until] she died which was b[e]tween five and ten minutes I suppose there was an ulcer or a blood vessel broke the rest are all well Jim thinks verry [very] strange that you do not answer his letter silve is going to the village and I have not tiem to write any more from your affectionate SisterMary Van Riper To N W and M A Van Riper Write as soon as you get this and direct to Earlville Lasalle Co Ill
