I now take my pen in hand to let you know howe [how] we are getting along out her[e] we are all well at present I wish you was out here we would have fine times playing in the hay tell yo[u]r mother to write to me tell [Willis] to write to me as soon as he can for I want to hear frohm [from] him tell Mary if she don’t write to me she need not look for a letter til[l] she writes henry I should like to how [know?] what has become of Jimmy write and tell me tell Mary that Macy Marshall is dead our [s]chool is going to begin weak [week] after next so good night for this timeJohn Van Riper To Henry Van Riper Letter is her[e] yet [illegible] was here yesterday and he said that he would take it along with him
